چکیده

REIVICH, MARTIN. Arterial Pcoz and cerebral hemodynamics. Am. J. Physiol. 206(1) : q-35. rg64.---The effect of arterial Pco:! in the control of cerebral hemodynamics over the full range of responsiveness of the cerebral vasculature was studied in the rhesus monkey. Cerebral perfusion pressure and arterial 02 saturation were controlled so that they produced no significant effect on the cerebral circulation. Other possible sources of error, e.g., blood temperature, effect of anesthesia, development of metabolic acidosis, and validity of internal jugular measurements of cerebral blood flow were evaluated. Arterial Pcoz was varied from 5 to 418 mm Hg in eight animals. The minimum and maximum cerebral blood flows obtained were 18 and 140 ml/min IOO g, respectively. These values were approached when the arterial Pcoz was in the range of IO-I 5 mm Hg and I 50 mm Hg, respectively. At these levels of arterial Pcoz the maximum and minimum cerebrovascular resistance occurred. These values were 4.78 and 0.63 mm Hg/ml/min per IOO g, respectively. A mathematical analysis of the data enabled equations relating arterial Pco:! to cerebrovascular resistance and to cerebral blood flow to be derived. Values predicted by these equations compare favorably with the actual measured data and with similar data in the literature.

Splanchnic hemodynamics and gut mucosal-arterial PCO(2) gradient during systemic hypocapnia.

The effects of hypocapnia [arterial PCO(2) (Pa(CO(2))) 15 Torr] on splanchnic hemodynamics and gut mucosal-arterial P(CO(2)) were studied in seven anesthetized ventilated dogs. Ileal mucosal and serosal blood flow were estimated by using laser Doppler flowmetry, mucosal PCO(2) was measured continuously by using capnometric recirculating gas tonometry, and serosal surface PO(2) was assessed by u...

Hemodynamic and metabolic parameters during prolonged cardiac arrest and reperfusion by extracorporeal circulation.

Extracorporeal membranous oxygenation (ECMO) is increasingly used in the management of refractory cardiac arrest. Our aim was to investigate early effects of ECMO after prolonged cardiac arrest. In fully anesthetized swine (48 kg, N=18) ventricular fibrillation (VF) was induced and untreated period (20 min) of cardiac arrest commenced, followed by 60 min extracorporeal reperfusion (ECMO flow 10...

Cerebral and systemic hemodynamic changes during cognitive and motor activation paradigms.

Cognitive and/or sensorimotor stimulations of the brain induce increases in cerebral blood flow that are usually associated with increased metabolic demand. We tested the hypothesis that changes in arterial blood pressure (ABP) and arterial Pco(2) also take place during brain activation protocols designed to induce hemispheric lateralization, leading to a pressure-autoregulatory response in add...

A new two-breath technique for extracting the cerebrovascular response to arterial carbon dioxide.

Cerebrovascular autoregulation is evaluated from spontaneous fluctuations in mean flow velocity (MFV) by transcranial Doppler ultrasound of the middle cerebral artery (MCA) with respect to changes in arterial blood pressure (BP(MCA)), but the effects of spontaneous fluctuations in arterial Pco(2) on MFV have been largely ignored. Autoregressive moving average analysis (ARMA), a closed-loop syst...
